    Kindness in memorable university teachers

The article presents some insights derived from research on ‘good teaching practices’ in the context of the School of Humanities, Mar del Plata State University, Argentina. He professor in charge of the ‘Introduction to Philosophy’ course has been signaled as ‘memorable’ by her advanced students, and thus become part of the investigation. In her classes, the relationship with the students entails peculiar ethical dimensions, and hospitality is one of the categories involved in her didactic proposal. Much data has been gathered through ethnographic reports of classwork, interviews, surveys and analysis of reference materials, which aims at throwing light into good teaching at university, as part of the investigation conducted by the Research Team on Education and Cultural Studies (GIEEC) in this University.Fil: Porta Vazquez, Luis Gabriel. Controllability of protein-protein interaction phosphorylation-based networks: Participation of the hub 14-3-3 protein family

Posttranslational regulation of protein function is an ubiquitous mechanism in eukaryotic cells. Here, we analyzed biological properties of nodes and edges of a human protein-protein interaction phosphorylation-based network, especially of those nodes critical for the network controllability. We found that the minimal number of critical nodes needed to control the whole network is 29%, which is considerably lower compared to other real networks. These critical nodes are more regulated by posttranslational modifications and contain more binding domains to these modifications than other kinds of nodes in the network, suggesting an intra-group fast regulation. Also, when we analyzed the edges characteristics that connect critical and non-critical nodes, we found that the former are enriched in domain-to-eukaryotic linear motif interactions, whereas the later are enriched in domain-domain interactions. Our findings suggest a possible structure for protein-protein interaction networks with a densely interconnected and self-regulated central core, composed of critical nodes with a high participation in the controllability of the full network, and less regulated peripheral nodes. Our study offers a deeper understanding of complex network control and bridges the controllability theorems for complex networks and biological protein-protein interaction phosphorylation-based networked systems.Fil: Uhart, Marina. A two-level enriched finite element method for a mixed problem

    Get PDF
The simplest pair of spaces is made inf-sup stable for the mixed form of the Darcy equation. The key ingredient is to enhance the finite element spaces inside a Petrov-Galerkin framework with functions satisfying element-wise local Darcy problems with right hand sides depending on the residuals over elements and edges. The enriched method is symmetric, locally mass conservative and keeps the degrees of freedom of the original interpolation spaces. First, we assume local enrichments exactly computed and we prove uniqueness and optimal error estimates in natural norms. Then, a low cost two-level finite element method is proposed to effectively obtain enhancing basis functions. The approach lays on a two-scale numerical analysis and shows that well-posedness and optimality is kept, despite the second level numerical approximation. Several numerical experiments validate the theoretical results and compares (favourably in some cases) our results with the classical Raviart-Thomas elemen

Ethical warp in university teaching from students' perspective: intellect and emotion association in memorable teachers

    Get PDF
This paper revisits some categories from the research developed by The Education and Cultural Studies Research Group (GIEEC). The group has been studying for the last years good teaching practices at the School of Humanities from Mar del Plata State University, Argentina. The purpose of this article is to enquire the ethical warp of teaching from narrative pieces by advanced students who defined memorable teachers for our project. Moral values that students perceived in those they considered memorable teachers, give origin to an analytical perspective of aspects of Higher Education Teaching away from a technocratic angle and which are not always taken into account
